Floral Wallpaper: Styles, Ideas & How to Make It Yours
No pattern has stayed in love with our homes quite like the floral.
From the trailing blooms of a Victorian drawing room to the ditsy sprigs of a country cottage, floral wallpaper has decorated our walls for centuries — and it endures because it does something no other design quite manages. A good floral brings a room to life. It softens hard corners, carries colour and character, and makes a space feel gathered, warm and thoroughly lived-in.
At Claret & Key, every floral is drawn by our own designers and printed to order, so the design that arrives is the one you chose, in the colourway you chose — made especially for your walls. Not pulled from a shelf. Made for you.
Finding your floral
The beauty of the floral is its range. At one end sits the ditsy floral — small, delicate, endlessly repeating sprigs that bring a gentle prettiness to a room without overwhelming it. At the other, the large-scale floral: bold, painterly blooms that turn a single wall into a work of art. Between them lies everything from the trailing romance of a vintage floral to the quiet charm of a wildflower meadow.
You can also choose by the flower itself. Our hydrangea, rose and poppy, wisteria and peony designs each carry their own character — from the full, romantic head of a hydrangea to the airy fall of wisteria. And for a design brimming with life, our floral and bird patterns bring blooms and birdsong to the same wall.
Choosing your colour
Because our florals are printed to order, the colour is entirely yours. A pink floral brings warmth and softness; a blue floral feels fresh and classic; a green floral leans into the garden. For something quieter, a neutral or muted floral offers pattern without noise — while a bold, warm-toned floral in mustard, red or plum adds depth and a note of the unexpected. Whatever you land on, it's printed in your shade, not the nearest match.
How to use floral wallpaper at home
A floral suits far more of the house than people expect. In a bedroom, a soft or trailing floral wraps the room in calm romance. In a living room, a larger bloom on a chimney breast or a single wall brings drama and warmth. Hallways love a smaller repeat that draws you through the space, and a floral makes a kitchen feel like the characterful heart of a home rather than a set of units.
Scale is your most useful tool. In a smaller room, a ditsy or mid-scale floral adds charm without shrinking the space; in a larger or double-height room, a big painterly bloom has the confidence to fill it. And a floral rarely wants to work alone — layered with a stripe or a check, it gives that collected, layered look of a home that's evolved over generations.
Your floral, your way
Every Claret & Key design comes in three finishes. Traditional (150gsm, super-matte) is the refined, paste-the-wall classic. Heavy-Grade (300gsm, with a subtle sand texture) stands up to hallways and kitchens. And Removable peel-and-stick (180gsm) gives you the same design with none of the commitment — perfect for renters, or a room you like to restyle.
All three are printed to order in our Cheshire studio on FSC-approved, PVC- and VOC-free paper — kinder to the planet, and safe for every room in the house, nurseries included. Nothing is printed until you order it: less waste, and a wall that's genuinely, unmistakably yours.
Flowers change with the light. Order a sample and live with your colourway for a few days before you decide.
Florals range from delicate, small-repeat ditsy prints to large, painterly blooms — with vintage, wildflower, and single-flower designs (like hydrangea or rose) in between. The right one depends on the scale and mood you want in the room.
Is floral wallpaper still in fashion?
Very much — the floral is a permanent fixture of decorating, and both large painterly florals and dark, moody florals are especially sought-after right now as part of the return to warm, characterful interiors.
Which rooms suit floral wallpaper?
Almost all of them. Bedrooms and living rooms are naturals, hallways suit smaller repeats, and a floral gives a kitchen real character. Scale is key — smaller florals for smaller rooms, bold blooms for larger walls.
What colour floral wallpaper should I choose?
That depends on the mood: pink for warmth, blue for fresh and classic, green for a garden feel, neutral for quiet pattern, or a bold warm tone for drama. Because we print to order, you choose the exact colour way.
Can I get floral wallpaper in a custom colour?
Yes. Every Claret & Key floral is drawn in-house and printed to order in the colourway you choose — made especially for you, rather than picked from a fixed range.
I love how everything turned out and the price point was great. It was a bit challenging to piece together. Being from the USA, it was kind of a challenge to convert all the measurements to figure out how many rolls I needed and then where to cut the rolls to line up the images based on the design repetition. Luckily, I had plenty of wallpaper to work with on the roll.
Absolutely beautiful design and texture. Got the heavy duty wallpaper and put it up without any previous wallpaper experience and it went up very easily and beautifully. Definitely recommend.
Extremely helpful and supportive when I needed advice on measurements, with fast delivery too. The quality of the wallpaper is excellent, and I’m really pleased with the overall service. Highly recommended!
Gorgeous wallpaper, but the measuring option on the website left us short by 1 roll. Had to order another one but when it came the colour match was perfect. Thankfully I wasn’t paying for a decorator, otherwise would have been disappointed in having to pay for them to return. Otherwise great quality wallpaper and design compared to other similar products available.
First purchase from claret and key and truly impressed. Beautiful quality wallpaper. Pretty yet not too fussy. Easy to hang, cut and match. Would work in any room
Good tracking and delivery service too.
Definitely recommend and would reuse for future projects.
Everything went really good. Apart from the quality of the wallpaper which is fantastic, the staff were exemplary in their communications, friendliness and professionalism. They really did go the extra mile to help me.
A great experience all round.
Thank you.

Lovely pattern and paper quality.
However, I wish that I had paid more attention to the roll width measurement.
For some strange reason your paper is narrower than a standard roll. This caused me a great deal of problems when papering my lobby, a small area but that made it more difficult because I was left with a narrow space to fill on 3 walls with a very long drop.
Although I love the paper I probably wouldn't use it again just for this reason.
Why you would produce paper not of a standard width is for you to know and me to wonder but it has made my small project very difficult.
Used this paper to make a dark study cosier. Absolutely loved the colour - the background is a perfect match to our existing panelling painted in Farrow and Ball Old White. First time using paste the wall and it was a revelation so easy and much less mess. Quality of the paper is great but noted the rolls are slightly narrower than most wallpapers. Loved the pattern match which meant little waste what we had left we used to recover some old box files which was easy. I thoroughly recommend.
Great quality wallpaper! The print is beautiful, the wallpaper is thick, and fairly easy to install. Our small area took about an hour and a half because we had a lot of of awkward cuts.
Will definitely be using this brand again!
The paper was just hung and we are thrilled.
The quality of the paper, ease of working with it, (per the paper hangers), your customer service, all were exceptional. We will be ordering again. Thank you!!
Fabulous wallpaper and excellent customer service. This Bronte wallpaper has given my kitchen a new lease of life. Will definitely buy from here again.
